A word about this collective

Small group leaders can make or break the small group experience. In this collective, we'll discuss together how to put the right leaders in the right place! I have worked in small group ministry for nearly 20 years in churches of all sizes. The goal isn't for you to adopt a certain model of small group ministry but rather, it's to help you adapt best practices and principles in your context. We will have time in each call to ask questions and bounce ideas off of one another.

session details

session 1

recruiting small group leaders

Cast vision for why there are right and wrong small group leaders. Help them build a framework for the goal of small groups:

  • You want to recruit the specific type of leader who will play a part in your pre-determined goals

Write a leader description:

  • The right people will always rise to the bar you set for them

  • If they don’t meet the qualifications, they are not the right person

Determine your process for making the need known for leaders:

  • What time of year?

  • Who will meet with those interested?

  • How will people access leader descriptions?

  • Is there an application?

What are your next steps for an approved leader?

session 2

training new small group leaders

Expectations. Adults learn on a need-to-know basis. What do they need to know to get them started (first 6-8 weeks)?

transitioning models

Having leader expectations may be brand new. How do we transition from one model to another?

  • Cast vision to veteran group leaders, next

  • Then, cast vision to the church as a whole
